Whether you discover a developer on Fiverr, Upwork or their own website, the project still needs a clear agreement. A platform is a way to meet providers; it does not make two different service packages equivalent. I am not claiming membership, endorsement or a rating on any marketplace.
Whether you choose a Fiverr web developer, an Upwork freelance web developer or a direct working relationship, the brief should describe the same deliverable. For web development on Fiverr, check what the package includes and what counts as an extra revision. For any route, agree who owns the files, how milestones are accepted and how access is removed after the project.
Read what the package includes
An offer for a small landing page may exclude writing, integrations, migration and ongoing support. Compare the actual deliverables with your brief. Ask about limits on pages, revisions and product entries. If the task involves an existing Laravel application, a generic website package may not describe the investigation required.
Verify relevant work
Ask the provider to explain a project that resembles yours. Who created the design? Who implemented the functionality? What was their specific contribution? Screenshots can introduce a discussion, but a demonstration of the important journey gives stronger evidence. Use the same questions whether you found the person through a platform or directly.
Understand ownership and acceptance
Record the accounts, files and documentation you will receive. Specify how important workflows will be tested and how requested changes affect the scope. If you use a platform, review its current payment, dispute and communication rules directly before committing; those rules can change and are not summarised as legal advice here.
Choose a useful first step
For a clearly defined task, a small milestone can work. For a vague problem, begin with diagnosis or discovery. That first step should produce an understandable output, such as a prioritised review or a technical plan. Do not choose solely by the cheapest headline when the risky part of the work has not been described.
