Laravel and WordPress can both power useful websites. They solve different starting problems. WordPress is organised around managing and publishing content. Laravel is an application framework for implementing your own business logic. The choice becomes clearer when you describe the daily work rather than compare feature lists in the abstract.
A freelance website and app developer should explain the trade-off in terms of your everyday work. Who edits the pages? Which tasks require accounts, permissions or business rules? Compare a freelance WordPress web developer’s proposal with a custom application using the same journeys and maintenance assumptions. Choose the platform after defining those needs, rather than treating a framework as the goal.
Follow the editor’s day
If the main job is publishing pages and articles, a familiar content editor may matter more than custom application architecture. Ask how staff draft, review, translate and update material. WordPress can offer a practical starting point when its existing tools fit. A lightweight PHP publishing site can also make sense for a controlled editorial workflow, as UAPs News demonstrates.
Follow the business process
If the main job is approving requests, calculating eligibility within a business workflow, combining records or connecting several systems, custom development deserves a closer look. Laravel provides a structure for building those rules. It does not remove the need to define them. Describe the exceptions and permissions before choosing the interface or framework.
Consider the cost of fitting the wrong shape
A large collection of plugins can become difficult when each one assumes a different data model. Conversely, building a complete custom publishing tool may be unnecessary when a standard editor already does the job. The question is how much adaptation is required, who will understand it and how updates affect that adaptation. Include the handover in the comparison.
Separate connected systems when useful
A business may keep WordPress for its public content and use a Laravel application for a separate operational tool. An API can connect them where there is a justified need. That arrangement brings its own authentication and maintenance questions, so it should be chosen deliberately. “Use both” is not automatically a simpler answer.
Write down the deciding factors
- Main users and their daily tasks
- Content review and translation needs
- Business rules and integration complexity
- Existing systems worth preserving
- Maintenance knowledge and ownership
I work with both technologies. That makes it easier to recommend a foundation around your situation rather than force the situation into one favourite stack.
